About Us
Shantel Perreal
B.Ed, B.Sc, Acupuncturist, HECO, CMT, Cranio-Sacral Therapist and Doctorate of Naturopathic Medicine in progress.
Shantel founded the Equine Remedial Therapist course in response to the alarming gap in education and expertise among practicing animal therapists across the country. It was shocking to her that someone could complete a weekend massage course and be considered "certified" to work on animals.
With over 205 bones, 700 muscles, intricate fascial lines, and a complex nervous system in a horse, it’s impossible to acquire the necessary knowledge and skills in such a short time. Just as you wouldn’t trust a human massage therapist with only a weekend’s training, why should it be acceptable for your horse?
As a former business owner of human massage clinics, Shantel maintained high standards for her team, ensuring they were up-to-date on best practices and deeply knowledgeable about human anatomy and physiology. She has carried these same rigorous standards into the equine world, setting a benchmark for excellence in her current students. Shantel continues to expand her own knowledge—her resume reflects her dedication to lifelong learning.
Students in the program receive in-depth training on the origin, insertion, and innervation of every muscle in the equine body, a process that spans the first two years of the program. In addition to mastering muscle structures, types, and the nervous system, students are trained in hands-on techniques, which are evaluated through practical exams to ensure safety and proficiency.
The school places a strong emphasis on safety—for both practitioners and patients. Students must demonstrate proper technique, in-depth knowledge, and a commitment to safety. Those who fail to meet these standards will not pass. This uncompromising approach ensures graduates are prepared to be successful and trusted therapists.
The Equine Remedial Therapist Program is a comprehensive four-year course offering part-time online instruction through Zoom classes..
If you are passionate about equine therapy and are ready to commit to a rigorous, high-standard program, apply today to join the next generation of skilled equine remedial therapists.
